Introduction to Home Mission

Home Mission is the Baptist family purse: it is the way that members support and resource one another. Home Mission provides funding for the thirteen associations and the national resource as well as grants to churches and church-related ministries. All Baptist churches in membership with the association are asked to give at least 5% of their general fund income to Home Mission so that the ministry and mission of all our churches can continue to grow and develop. Cheques for Home Mission can be sent to the Association Office, and should be payable to 'Baptist Union of GB South Wales'. If you would like bank details to make a transfer please contact the office.

Grants in S Wales

Churches and Chaplaincy in South Wales are receiving grant funding from Home Mission.

Grants are provided for mission through ministry at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Pentrebach, and Zion Baptist Church, Ebbw Vale.  We are pleased to share with you recent news from Zion Baptist Church who in July baptised nine Christians - you can read more on our Baptist Union website. In 2016 a new grant is in place for a minister at Dinas Powys Baptist Church.

The Baptist family are supporting chaplaincy - at the University of South Wales with the team led by Vaughan Rees, including James Karran and Ray Vincent; Sports Chaplaincy with Steve Jones; and Community Chaplaincy through Living Here Working Here with Chris Lewis in Bonymaen.

The pioneering ministry of Ifor and Penny Williams in Breconshire also receives funding from a Special Ministry Grant.

Another place where outstanding work is going on is in Penrhys where we, along with other denominations, are partnering to enable a living Christian presence to make a real difference to the residents of the village.

We were encouraged with the recent 40 Days of Good News in South Wales where churches had a special focus on mission.

Some Mission Project Grants are being used, making a difference to communities in South Wales, including in Caldicot, Cardiff and Penarth.

One church which received a BUGB Mission Through Ministry Grant was Kensington Baptist Church, Brecon.

The Minister, Rev'd Neil Jones told about some of the ways the church is used - below.

‘Sparklers’ groupWe began ‘Sparklers’ carer and toddler group and each week our numbers seem to increase. We now have about 30 children and nearly as many parents most weeks. We have begun to build good relationships.

At the other end of the age spectrum we have served older people through ‘Tea Club’ for many years.

Use of the building by community groups is increasing. We want to be recognised as having a ‘generous spirit’ by the way we make the building available at a very reasonable rent. We hope this will develop into another opportunity to build relationships, serve our town and share the gospel.

So the building is a wonderful asset that we seek to use in building the kingdom but we mustn’t be tied to it. God has called us to find ways of being a loving, witnessing, presence in our town.

We share a growing commitment with other churches to work together. We already do this through ‘Open the Book’ assemblies in two schools, a united walk of witness on Good Friday and various Christian Aid events. We are beginning to think about our united witness at Christmas.

As part of the re-organisation of BUGB, responsibility for the allocation of Home Mission money for grants has been transferred to the Associations in consultation with the other Associations within each Partnership. Now each Association is allocated an annual budget which they then administer.

We are dependent on the support you give to Home Mission to continue to fund mission.

Thank you for your support.
